Our Grand Cru Vineyards Tour began with an exclusive drive through the stunning 1000 acre Elgee Park property with Australia’s most significant private sculpture collection and the region’s first vineyard. A highlight of the day was tasting wines with the Peninsula's top winemakers: At Stonier, the charming Mike Symons showed us his single-vineyard wines before we ventured up the road to see the awesome view from Brian Stonier's magnificent residence high on the hilltop of Merricks. One of the region’s most distinguished winemakers, Lindsay McCall personally looked after us at Paringa Estate while the urbane Nat White at Main Ridge Estate went a step further taking us into his tiny barrel room for an exclusive tasting of the sensational 2015 Acre Pinot Noir – from possibly the best vintage in the region’s 45-year history.
On the way to lunch we made a surprise visit to the Willow Creek barrel room with winemaker, Geraldine McFaul before enjoying a splendid lunch at Terre Restaurant. The day finished with the 2013 single vineyard wines at Moorooduc Estate. This was as good as it gets for wine lovers as Mornington Peninsula Plunge Tours delve deeper.
