We visit the restless, creative and driven winemakers who push the envelope with varieties and style. We start at Apple Espresso @ Tullys for morning tea before visiting Eldridge Estate in Red Hill. David Lloyd’s funky take on clonal selection makes his one of the most interesting wineries in the region. Down the hill, Willow Creek Vineyards is where winemaker Geraldine McFaul produces elegant, idiosyncratic wines perfectly balanced to engage the brain. After lunch in the fabulous Salix Restaurant, it’s on to Yabby Lake for a taste of Tom Carson’s Pinot Noir, the region’s first wine to win the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy at the Melbourne Wine Show. We finish our day at Crittenden Estate tasting the expansive range of Rollo Crittenden’s wines including a selection of Italian and Spanish varietals not found anywhere else in the region.
